Brooks Automation is seeking a Global Commodity Manager (OEM Robotics / Systems) to join the Brooks Automation Commodity Management team to manage and improve the supply chain risk. The primary focus of this role will be on managing Brook’s OEM portfolio. Some focus will be required in the Mechanical and Distribution areas.
The candidate will manage the overall Brooks relationship with the supply base within assigned categories in order to achieve overall performance improvement. This will include ongoing management of the internal and external teams via periodic reporting, meetings, and visits as needed as well as periodic business reviews with key, critical and strategic suppliers.
The team member will work with multiple internal functional organizations and suppliers to improve all facets of supplier performance including, but not limited to supplier processes, continuous improvement programs, cost, quality and delivery.
The candidate will have overall responsibility for developing, executing and maintaining the global sourcing strategy for assigned categories. Identify and engage with internal stakeholders to define business requirements and objectives and tailor sourcing strategies to support Corporate roadmaps, meet financial and non-financial business goals, and improve overall supply chain flexibility and performance.
The candidate will be responsible to support annual category cost reduction and supply chain continuity objectives via negotiation, resourcing, implementation of pull systems, continuous improvement projects, and proactive risk mitigation.
The individual will identify new domestic and low-cost region suppliers and manage the transition of products and consolidation/rationalization throughout the supply base in support of the defined sourcing strategy. The individual must demonstrate exceptional negotiations skills and the ability to positively influence senior supplier executives to align to Brooks initiatives and direction.
Develop, execute and maintain sourcing strategies within defined commodity areas.
Ensure alignment of category strategies to business requirements and objectives.
Achieve cost savings through low cost country sourcing, supplier rationalization, value engineering, and continuous improvement, and leverage of corporate spend.
Lead Supplier contract/price negotiations.
Act as the global relationship manager for the key, critical, and strategic suppliers and build long term supplier partnerships.
Actively support and participate in resolving supplier delivery, quality or commercial issues which have been escalated to the commodity team.
Strategic management of supply continuity and risk mitigation.
Support make/buy analytics & decisions.
Select and monitor vendors/suppliers to ensure that parts received meet requirements in a cost-effective manner.
Conduct Periodic Business Reviews with key, critical and strategic suppliers.
Conduct supplier facility surveys of potential suppliers.
Facilitate problem solving and continual improvement training sessions ultimately transferring knowledge base to suppliers.
Understand and communicate supplier technical roadmaps and other business-related feedback effectively to Engineering and / or other cross-functional teams.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Senior Buyer or Commodity Management role.
Demonstrated management of OEM and Motion suppliers, both domestic and international.
Advanced knowledge of the contract manufacturing landscape, including general business environment, existing and future/emerging technologies and processes, and proper business process controls.
Demonstrated experience with and leadership of NPI and re-sourcing projects or programs, both within and between geographies.
Cost Analysis – Should cost, BOM/Quote comparison, ROI, Cost Model.
Supplier Collaboration – establishment of collaborative toolset.
Advanced level expertise in Microsoft Office applications.
Oracle experience (Oracle Cloud experience preferred).
15% to 20% travel required, including International.
Demonstrated management of mechanical suppliers (general and precision machining, frames/weldments, mechanical assembly).
Intermediate to advanced data analysis skills.
A data-driven, analytical mindset, tempered with common sense.
Exceptional interpersonal skills – ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
Ability to articulate well both simple and complex situations in a concise and logical manner.
