Overview

Brooks Automation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work in our Chelmsford, MA headquarter in Greater Boston, supporting the development of semiconductor manufacturing solutions.  Brooks provides automation solutions for chip manufacturing globally.  Among many technological areas, we design and build precision robots and systems for wafer handling.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in all aspects of the mechanical design and development of new products, full life cycle ownership from concept thru production release. 

  • Designs new products for the semiconductor industry as well as designs new mechanical features for existing products.

  • Produces and releases 3D models, drawings and BOM’s per the Brooks process.

  • Works cooperatively with electrical and SW engineering to ensure new product designs will function per the market and customer requirements.

  • Understands and communicate cost impact of new designs.

  • Builds prototypes.

  • Supports operations, supply chain, field service and the quality organization as needed to ensure the product line can be sustained and function reliably.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an automation product development environment.

  • 3D CAD modeling, Creo and FEA/CFD of mechanical designs. 

  • Knowledge of materials and good design practices for the material of choice. 

  • Hands on skill for assembly and trouble- shooting of mechanical components, assemblies and systems. 

  • Ability to estimate tasks for completing projects and follow schedules.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Semiconductors equipment.

  • Knowledge of SEMI standards.

  • Experience with Agile / AgileEC.

  • Knowledge of fundamentals of components as robotic mechanisms, including motors, bearings, sensors, actuators. 

  • Working knowledge of automation controls, robotics, semiconductor system integration. 

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to prepare technical reports, presentations and interact with suppliers, supply chain and operations.
